On The Last Darshan: The Guru-Chela Relationship

When you look at El Morya’s portrait, what do you see? Do you see the love in his eyes or do you see the sternness? Do you see that twinkle?

Elizabeth Clare Prophet

I just finished a 16 week “home study” course that I highly recommend to anyone interested in progressing on the path of personal Christhood as taught by the Ascended Masters of the Great White Brotherhood, through their Messengers Mark L. Prophet and Elizabeth Clare Prophet:  The Darshan with the Messenger series.  This 1996-1997 DVD series offers the unique opportunity to experience what it was like to sit at the feet of an embodied Guru, the Messenger Elizabeth Clare Prophet, now the ascended Guru Ma.

The last darshan, The Guru-Chela Relationship, occurred on February 20, 1997, and little did any of us who were in attendance realize that, in a few short months, the Code of Conduct set by the Great White Brotherhood that the Messenger mentions numerous times during the darshans would be dropped, (not by the Messenger), and that the Ascended Master El Morya would withdraw his sponsorship of the organization on April 30, 1997.

During the February 20th darshan, the Messenger addressed how important it is for us to resolve our psychology, especially with our parents, so that we do not make the karma of projecting upon the Messenger, the embodied Guru, or upon an Ascended Master, such as El Morya, our hatred or fear or distrust or whatever unresolved problems with any parents we have ever had.

Even though El Morya removed his sponsorship of the organization and it is no longer “his organization” as the Messenger describes in the darshan, the teachings regarding the need to resolve your psychology while pursuing chelaship still apply, and, it is important to note that El Morya’s worldwide Ashram still exists.  As the Messenger said:
“If we fear the father image, we may anticipate that El Morya will treat us just as the bad father treated us. It could be the indulgent father. It could be all kinds of things. When you look at El Morya’s portrait, what do you see? Do you see the love in his eyes or do you see the sternness? Do you see that twinkle? What you are able to see in El Morya depends on your psychology.”
Interestingly, the portrait of El Morya (above) that is visible during the darshans and to which the Messenger often refers, was done under the Messenger's direction and approved by the Master himself, and it is the last of its kind.
During the January 15, 1997 "Initiation and the One Initiator," darshan, (1:45:12), the Messenger makes a definitive statement about the portrait:

"When you see El Morya the last thing before you go to bed and he is looking at you, you know you have to write him a letter, you know you have to do all these things before you can go to sleep because this particular rendition of him (as seen above and during the darshans), he's, you know, he's alive and there and standing right there."
